A conservative allegory of the British class system

by johngo, top reviewer in Books ,  Sep 13, 2002
Pros: Superficially amusing
Cons: Celebrating middle-class superiority
The Bottom Line: Apart from a surface whimsicality and charm, the book holds up for admiration an attitude to the material world which is intellectually and morally contemptible.

by Dt.Bailey,  Mar 22, 2001
Pros: complete storyline and plot
Cons: wizards? will kids believe there are them
The Bottom Line: This just goes to show that the book is not perfect. There are some definite flaws. This is a good book to read with your child. ENJOY!

AudioTapes or Book: This is a Sinister Plot about a Parallel Universe

by aawehr,  Feb 19, 2001
Pros: Fast moving plot. Characters are further developed.
Cons: Not for younger children! Dark, sinister plot. Could cause nightmares!
The Bottom Line: The most sinister of the first three Harry Potter books. Think about who will be reading it. A tale of convicts, dementors, werewolves, witches, shape-shifters and lurking evil.

POA-Best one yet!

by SammySea6,  Jun 19, 2001
Pros: Harry and characters are developing and new characters introduced are excellent.
Cons: Should have read previous two books for this to really make sense.
The Bottom Line: Do yourself a favor and read book #1 and book #2, or you won't appreciate the complexity of this installment. It is the best yet in the series.
