Is the TX the best PDA yet from Palm?
Pros: Built in WIFI, small thin design, screen very readable and good color.
Cons: That #*&%%! connector. (see above) Full review This is my third Palm device, My first was a Tungsten E, liked it but after three years upgraded to a T5 Palm, that was given to my Daughter, when I acquired the TX. I liked the T5 but it did have its problems especially with hot sync with its cable. The TX has it's Wifi built-in no more wifi stick as used in the E and T5,Yeah! Palm got that right with the TX. The screen is the same size as the T5 and good resolution and color can be found with it. The prone to lockup as the T5 did constantly when it chocked on its programming seems to be fixed. Not that you will ever have to press the reset button, but now the lockups times are now acceptable. Unfortunately Palm made one big error with the TX by doing away with the mini USB connector on the devices body that it had on the early Tungsten E's and went with the connector found on the T5, This unit (connector) is doomed to failure and needs constant attention, meaning cleaning, wiggling and swearing at. This is a shame as it is essential in hot sync. the TX to a computer. one must wiggle the connector around test while pressing the hot sync. button while waiting to hear the musical notes indicating a hot sync has started, unfortunate this is music that is heard only 1 out of 5 attempts. Users will find it more productive to perform the hot sync in the blue tooth mode. Battery life seems to run from one to four hours depending on use, wifi use reducing it considerably. Charge time however is quick in bringing the battery back up to 100%. The unit is light in the hand, and easily fits into one's pocket. For entering long documents in MS Word it is advisable to buy the portable and fold-able key board. Another worthwhile investment for the TX is the program "Pocket Tunes", which gives one the ability to tune into Internet radio stations using wifi. After One year of daily use the TX has never failed me, and has been a much better performer then the past Palm offerings. |
