Stunning Picture - Easy Set up
Pros: Capability to adjust image and sound to give superb results. Excellent fit and finish.
Cons: Remote control is not the best, but does its job reasonably well. Full review I was all set to purchase a 1080p plasma 50" panel, and then I saw the Samsung LNT5265F in a Sears store. It just happened to be adjacent to similarly sized rear projection and plasma TV's. At first I thought the LCD was a plasma TV because of its glossy screen. I prefer a glossy screen because the image is sharper. Of course glare can be a problem, but glare can be managed, especially in our home setting. When I realised this Samsung was an LCD TV, I was intrigued and checked it out over all sorts of angles. I noticed a small color shift at very oblique angles, but the colors were within acceptable range. The contrast was unusually good for any TV and I did not notice any ghosting during fast moving images. Sears had a great deal too, about $2000 after rebate so we bought it. The picture out of the box needed tweaking for best performance. I went online to look for suggestions and found someone who shared their settings that I used. It was easy to adjust using the remote control. We did not have HD cable at that time, but we found the quality of regular TV to be outstanding. With HD cable now installed the HD broadcasts look fantastic. The Superbowl was awesome regarding clarity of fine detail and realism. Our next purchase will be a BlueRay DVD player followed by a wireless surround system when this technology gets better. Other refinements were extensive inputs and outputs at the back as well as a few critical ones at the side. 3 HDMI inputs and a host of other Inputs and Outputs were impressive. In contrast to the high fit and finish of the TV, the remote felt "cheap" and the ergonomics was not the best as far as remotes go. But this was a small price to pay for the enjoyment in watching the TV. Now that Samsung has brought out a 52" LCD TV with a LED backlight system that goes for over $4000, the price for this CCFL (fluorescent lamp) backlight system should drop even more in the future. If you can afford the TV with the LED backlight system, go for that as that picture is even better, with a wider color gamut and visual dynamic range. However, if your budget is restricted, like ours, you cannot go wrong with the Samsung LNT5265F. Go for it! |
